Prof. Ilko Getov PhD

Prof. Ilko Getov is a leading expert in the fields of medicinal product regulation and healthcare management, with over 30 years of professional experience. He graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Higher Medical Institute – Sofia in 1988. In 1997, he was awarded a PhD degree in the scientific specialty of Social Medicine and the Organization of Healthcare and Pharmacy.

Since 1996, he has been a member of the academic staff of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University – Sofia, and since 2013 he has held the academic position of Professor at the Department of Organization and Economics of Pharmacy. His research activities are focused on the following areas: pharmaceutical and drug regulation, clinical pharmacy, pharmacoepidemiology and clinical trials.

He is the author of over 200 scientific publications, 15 monographs, and 12 textbooks, with over 300 citations in international databases. Under his supervision, 17 doctoral candidates have successfully defended their dissertations. He participates as a leader and expert in numerous research projects funded by the National Science Fund and the Medical Science Council at the Medical University – Sofia. He is also a member of the editorial boards of leading peer-reviewed scientific journals with an impact factor (IF).

Prof. Getov has extensive administrative experience, having held senior governmental and public positions, including:

Chair of the National Council on Prices and Reimbursement of Medicinal Products (NCPRMP) (current mandate; previously held the position in 2022);

Deputy Minister of Health (2023–2024);

Chair of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Union (2013–2020);

First Vice-President of the Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union (PGEU) (2016)

Chair of the Health Technology Assessment Commission (2017–2019);

Member of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) at the European Medicines Agency (2020–2023)
